Celebrations of 350th birth anniversary of Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji at Bedford

On January 7, the UK-wide celebrations of 350th Birth Anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh ji continued in Bedford, where High Commission of India with Seva Trust UK, and local Sikh community and charity groups organised, a special talk and various competitions among school children at Sri Guru Ravidass Community Hall.

Local political and community leaders were present in the celebrations, including Mr. Mohammad Yasin- MP of Bedford, Mr. Vinod Tailor- High Sheriff of Bedfordshire, Mr. Charan Sekhon, Founder and Chairman of SEVA Trust UK, Mr. James Valentine- Mayor of Kempston, Mr. Lloyds Danny- Deputy Lieutenant of Bedford, Mr. Jaswinder Kumar- President of Sri Guru Ravidaas Sabha, Mr. Gordon Beeden - Chair Bedford hospital charity, Councillor Sue Oliver, as well as senior leaders of many Bedford Gurdwaras and teachers of all five Punjabi schools in the city.

Deputy High Commissioner Mr. Dinesh K. Patnaik spoke of the pride that Guru Gobind Singh ji's life invokes among all Indians irrespective of their region, religion or generation. He said that the revered Guru created the Khalsa to protect all communities against injustice, cruelty and brotherhood- a fact that needs to be remembered when remembering his universal and eternal message. He also said that the Panj Pyare initiated into the khalsa and recognized in Sikh tradition as symbols of steadfastness and devotion, were chosen by the revered Guru himself from different religions and parts of India. 
He pointed out that in the UK, among ethnic communities, Indians have outperformed all others, and the Sikh community in particular stands out for its stellar achievements in all walks of life. He congratulated in particular the school children for their essays on the life and teachings of the Tenth Guru and painting competitions on Sikhism.
