Constitution Day celebrations at India House

A commemorative event celebrating the 125th Birth Anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar as Constitution Day was organized in collaboration with the London School of Economics at the India House. During this event, Director of South Asia Centre, Ms. Mukulika Banerjee spoke of the monumental document that is the Indian Constitution and recalled the close links of LSE with Dr. Ambedkar.

During the evening, speeches on the inspiring life of Dr. Ambedkar were made, and a competition was organized in which students attending the programme made presentations on the theme of “What the Indian Constitution means to me”. Separately during the commemoration ceremonies, Preamble to the Constitution was read out by all officers and staff of the High Commission, led by the Acting High Commissioner.

Acting High Commissioner, Mr. Dinesh K Patnaik spoke of the criticality of the women and the youth of the country towards making the ideals enshrined in the Indian Constitution a living reality. He invoked the famous quote of Dr. Ambedkar that 'life should be great rather than long', and exhorted the students present to strive to take leadership and transformational roles in nation building process.

Also on the occasion, was released the book 'Religions in India: The Vision of Dr. Ambedkar', written by Mr. Monodeep Daniel.
