CELEBRATIONS OF GANDHI JAYANTI BY HIGH COMMISSION OF INDIA, LONDON

 

​Various events were held by the High Commission of India to celebrate the Gandhi Jayanti in the UK on 2 October 2016. More than 250 people attended the function at Tavistock Square in Central London which hosts a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Floral tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi by the High Commissioner, H.E. Mr. Navtej Sarna, Mayor of Camden Ms. Nadia Shah and other distinguished guests. In his remarks, the High Commissioner touched upon the different aspects of Mahatma Gandhi’s philosophy. The program was followed by rendition of Gandhiji’s favorite bhajans by students of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.

A function was held at the High Commission for screening of PM’s speech on the occasion of the inauguration of Pravasi Bharatiya Kendra. The event saw more than 200 participants from the community at the Gandhi Hall in India House.

A peace march was undertaken from TavistockSquare to Parliament Square which also hosts the statue of the Mahatma. Here too, floral tributes were paid to Gandhiji’s statues by distinguished guests and High Commissioner.
