Press Release on Study India Programme (SIP) - 2013

High Commission of India is happy to inform that the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs has announced the tentative schedule of the second 'Study India Programme' (SIP) to benefit the overseas Indian youth (foreign citizens of Indian origin only (not inclusive of Non-Resident Indians) in the age group of 18-26 years to undergo a short term course of 4 weeks to familiarize themselves with the art, culture, heritage, history and social and economic development of India.

The Programme will be organized from September 23 - October 19, 2013 (tentative dates) in partnership with a select Institute of repute, symbiosis centre for International Education (SCIE), Pune. There would be 30 participants in the programme. The participants would undergo a 3 week programme within the selected Institute with academic and cultural content and one week of field visits organized by the Institute.

The following may be noted in this regard:

> This programme is open only for Diaspora youth in the age group of 18-26 years. NRIs are not eligible to apply for this programme.

> It is open to PIOs from all over the world.

> Only those nominations may be forwarded to this High Commission which are in accordance with the prescribed guidelines. Applications for the SIP are to be sent to Under Secretary (DS ), Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs, Akbar Bhawan, New Delhi - 110011.

> Nominations are required to be duly recommended by Head of Mission/Head of Post at the given column in the application form.

> Nominations received in the Ministry after the prescribed last date would not be considered.

> List of applicants who have been selected for the SIP would be communicated at the earliest before its commencement.

> Selected participants would be required to purchase air ticket for their journey from the country of residence to India and back, as per the schedule prescribed by the Ministry. Concerned Indian Mission/Post would reimburse 90% (ninety percent) of the total cost of air ticket (at lowest economy excursion fare) to the participants on successful completion of the programme by them.

Guidelines and application form for the programme are attached as Annexure - I & Annexure - II respectively. Exact dates for the programmes would be conveyed at least a month before its commencement. The last date of the receipt applications at MOIA is slated to be 31.08.2013.
