The International Yoga Day Celebrations at Bhavan

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in London had a 4 hour celebration of International Day of Yoga on June 21 with Yoga exercises and talks. The celebrations concluded with a “Nada Yoga” dedicated by Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia attended by the High Commissioner Mr. Ranjan Mathai.

The Bhavan Celebrates International Yoga Day
The Bhavan, West Kensington, London

International Day of Yoga, which has been participated in over 177 countries world–wide, on 21 June, 2015 was highly anticipated by the team at The Bhavan.  John Shirbon Former resident Iyengar yoga teacher at The Bhavan organized day-long demonstrations, taster classes and lectures free to the public and over 100 people attended with rave reviews. The day’s events included talks by Vidhi Sohdi, Yoga Therapist in the tradition of Śri T.Krishnamacharya. Free taster classes were given by The Bhavan’s resident yoga teachers Elaine Morrison, Suzanne Gribble and Vidhi Sohdi. A few words of appreciation were given by representative from the Indian High Commission, Sri Gyan Singh, Councellor (Passports). An Introduction to Yoga, its place in Modern society and the key benefits were discussed by John Shirbon; demonstration of key asanas were given by Kiran Chothe, Iyengar teacher and former pupil of the Iyengar family in Pune. Other interesting event included Yogalates by Beth Morgan, and Pranayama by Kamal Mainali, both resident teachers at The Bhavan.
The day was ended by a sold-out concert by world-renowned flautist, Padmavibushan Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, attended by the Indian High Commissioner, HE Ranjan Mathai and Pandit Ravi Shankar’s wife, Smt Sukanya Shankar . In honor of International Day of Yoga Pt Hariprasad named the concert ‘NadaYoga’ or the yoga of sound.
