High Commissioner visited the field where the Magna Carta was signed

On 1 June 2015, High Commissioner visited the field where the Magna Carta was signed in  Runnymede, accompanied by the Mayor Councillor Derek Cotty.  A tree was planted at the site by then Prime Minister of India Mr. P.V. Narasimha Rao on March 16, 1994.  Beneath the tree is a plaque inscribed with a tribute rendered by Mr. Narasimha Rao with the words "As a tribute to the historic Magna Carta, a source of inspiration throughout the world; and as an affirmation of the values of Freedom, Democracy and the Rule of Law which the People of India cherish and have enshrined in their Constitution"

Prime Minister Rao was the only foreign leader to have dedicated a tree in honour of the site of Magna Carta.
