Tokens for Passport services can be collected at the High Commission of India from 0830 hrs to 1200 hrs without any restriction on numbers. Applications can be deposited at public counters from 0915 hrs to 1300 hrs on all working days. The delivery time of passports is from 1600 hrs to 1715 hrs on the date indicated on the receipt.
Application is to be submitted at the counter by the applicant personally or through a family member bearing an authorisation letter from the applicant. Travel Agents/Agents/Solicitors are not permitted to submit applications on behalf of applicants.
Similarly Passport can be collected by the applicant personally or by a family member bearing proper an authorisation letter and original identity paper / document to establish his / her identity.
Alternatively, passport deposited with the Passport Section of the High Commission can be sent back to the applicant by post after rendering necessary services if the applicant provides a pre-paid (recorded delivery / registered post) self-addressed envelope at the time of submission of application.
Applications can also be sent by post but must be accompanied by a pre-paid (recorded delivery / registered post) self-addressed envelope. The postal address for sending passport related applications is :-

Fee / mode of payment
Fee for passport services is accepted at the Passport Service Counter only in cash or postal order drawn in favour of the “High Commission of India, London”. In case, you are paying in cash please bring exact amount. If the application is sent by post, only crossed postal order in favour of “High Commission of India, London” are accepted. Cash is not to be sent with postal applications. Please note that cheques, bank drafts, credit or debit cards are not acceptable mode of payment at the High Commission.
Forms / procedure
Application forms and suggested formats for affidavits etc. can be downloaded from this website or obtained from the Passport Services Counter. There is only one application form for all the services.
4 (four) Passport-size (35mm x 45mm) photographs with white background (attestation not necessary) are required to be attached with application.
All original documents must be accompanied by self attested photocopies. These documents should be presented for scrutiny at the time of submission of application.
Affidavits in connection with various passport services can be sworn at the High Commission for an additional fee of £ 10.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) if applicant is able to furnish documents to establish his / her identity / nationality. The documents may include:- (a) copy of Indian passport, (b) damaged passport in original, (c) photo identity cards issued in India like driving licence, Election ID Card, Ration Card, PAN Card etc, (d) letter from employer certifying applicant's identity, (e) letter of introduction from two Indian nationals based in (f) for students, a certificate issued by the concerned educational/training institution; and (g) for short term visitors / tourists to the UK, air tickets / boarding passes / itinerary / visa copy etc.
Alternatively, the applicant can furnish affidavit attested/sworn before a Notary Public (not a solicitor) in the UK.
Various Passport related Services
Re-issue of Passports
- A new passport can be issued on the expiry, or up to one year before expiry of any passport which had an initial validity of 10 years;
- Any addition like change of address, addition/deletion of spouse name can be done at the time of re-issue subject to relevant provisions mentioned subsequently;
- It is necessary to have a valid visa or residence permit on the previous passport;
- If there is no visa or residence permit then a short validity passport for one year would be issued and this could be renewed on annual basis till the passport holder obtains a valid visa or residence permit, thereafter a full validity passport can be issued.
- Please note that the name in visa document / sticker or residence permit should match with that in the passport otherwise a short validity passport will be issued in cases where there are minor differences in the name on the passport and name on visa / residence permit. Validity of this passport will be extended to normal validity only after the applicant furnishes correct documents;
- Passport will not be issued if there is a major difference in the name on the Indian passport and the name on visa / residence permit and the applicant will be asked to rectify / clarify the anomaly. Any further service will be extended only after the rectification;
- The current or recently expired passport is required to be enclosed. In case the latest passport is additional booklet(s) issued to the original passport, the additional booklet(s) plus the original passport must be furnished;
- 4 (four) passport size (35 mm x 45 mm) photographs with white background are to be enclosed with the application;
- Fee is £ 29.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for ordinary (36 pages) passport or £ 36.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for jumbo (60 pages) passport;
- Tatkal scheme can be availed for same day delivery by paying an additional fee of £ 100.00 on applications for re-issue of passport but this facility is extended at the discretion of the High Commission subject to checks;
- If all the pages in the passport have been exhausted or there are not sufficient blank pages in the passport, then also a new passport of ten years validity from the current date can be issued subject to payment of fee as mentioned in Sl No. 9 above;
- This will also apply in all other cases like 'change in appearance, name, date of birth, place of birth, signatures etc. where a new passport booklet is required to be issued;
- The system of issuing additional booklets has been discontinued and new passports will be issued if pages in existing passport are exhausted. Indian nationals who had been issued Passports with 20 (twenty) years validity can also apply for a new passport as per procedure explained above.
Expired Passport for more than one year
- Duly filled in application form with 4 (four) passport size (35 mm x 45 mm) photographs with white background. 2 (two) additional photographs may be required in some cases where Police verification in India needs to be done;
- Proof of legal stay permission in UK. It is necessary to have a valid visa or residence permit on the previous passport.
- If there is no visa or residence permit then a short validity passport valid for one year would be issued and this could be renewed on annual basis till the passport holder obtains a valid visa or residence permit, thereafter a full validity passport can be issued.
- Please note that the name in visa document / sticker or residence permit should match with that in the passport otherwise a short validity passport will be issued in cases where there are minor differences in the name on the passport and name on visa / residence permit and only after the applicant furnishes correct documents will a normal validity passport be issued or the validity of the passport may be extended to normal validity as the case may be.
- Passport will not be issued if there is a major difference in the name on the Indian passport and the name on visa / residence permit and the applicant will be asked to rectify / clarify the anomaly and any further services will be extended only after the rectification;
- ID proof carrying photograph of the applicant like driving licence, ration card, electoral id card, PAN Card etc. (IDs should preferably from India as UK issued IDs would be accepted only as secondary proof);
- In case more than one year has elapsed since the expiry of the passport, applicant would be required to submit an affidavit in the prescribed format (please click Affidavit below) stating non acquisition of British Nationality;
- Further, in such cases, a letter from the British Home office confirming non-acquisition of foreign nationality must be furnished. This can be obtained from the Immigration & Nationality Directorate, Nationality Enquiry Team, P.O. No.306, Liverpool L69 2UX (Tel No. 0845 010 5200, Fax: 0151 672 5592. - Also, a Police Verification Form (available at High Commission counter) may be required to be filled in some cases where identity is not conclusively established;
- Fee is £ 29.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for an ordinary (36 pages) passport or £ 36.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for a jumbo (60 pages) passport;
- Applications for expired (over a year) passports must be submitted in person by the applicant and not sent by post. Tatkal Scheme is not applicable in such cases.
Issue of duplicate passports or Emergency Certificates in lieu of damaged or lost passports
- Application form with 4 (four) latest identical passport-size (35 mm x 45 mm) photographs with white background. 2 (two) additional photographs may be required in some cases where Police verification in India needs to be done;
- A Police Report regarding lost or stolen passport;
- A sworn affidavit in the prescribed format. The affidavit can be sworn at the High Commission itself for an additional fee of £ 10.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) or an affidavit from a public notary rpt public notary not solicitor in the UK;
- Proof of legal stay permission in UK. It is necessary to furnish proof of a valid visa or residence permit.
- If there is no visa or residence permit then a short validity passport for one year would be issued and this could be renewed on annual basis till the passport holder obtains a valid visa or residence permit, thereafter a full validity passport can be issued;
- Please note that the name in visa document / sticker or residence permit should match with that in the passport otherwise a short validity passport will be issued in cases where there are minor differences in the name on the passport and name on visa / residence permit and only after the applicant furnishes correct documents will a normal validity passport be issued or the validity of the passport may be extended to normal validity as the case may be.
- Passport will not be issued if there is a major difference in the name on the Indian passport and the name on visa / residence permit and the applicant will be asked to rectify / clarify the anomaly and any further services will be extended only after the rectification;
- For long term residents of the UK i.e. more than six months, an affidavit regarding non-acquisition of British nationality (to be filed at the High Commission);
- For long term residents of the UK i.e. more than six months, a letter from British Home Office confirming non-acquisition of British nationality are also required to be furnished This can be obtained from the Immigration & Nationality Directorate, Nationality Enquiry Team, P.O. No.306, Liverpool L69 2UX (Tel No. 0845 010 5200, Fax: 0151 672 5592). - A photocopy of lost passport/expired previous passport;
- Any other document establishing applicants Indian nationality as supporting document like Driving Licence, PAN card, Ration card, Election ID Card etc in original with a copy (the IDs furnished should preferably be issued by Government of India or other Indian authorities like the state governments etc. IDs issued in the UK would be considered only as secondary proof);
- Also, a Police Verification Form (available at High Commission counter) may be required to be filled in some cases where identity is not conclusively established;
- The fee for ordinary (36 pages) passport is £ 86.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) and £ 96.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for jumbo (60 pages) passport. The fee for Emergency Certificate is £ 6.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge);
- Applications for lost/damaged passports must be submitted in person by the applicant and not sent by post. Tatkal Scheme is not applicable in cases of lost/damaged passports.
Renewal of passports, which were initially issued for a short validity (less than five years) on emergency / not having valid visa \
- Duly filled in application form with 4 (four) latest identical passport size (35 mm x 45 mm) photographs;
- Copy of visa if available (if applicant is not able to furnish any proof of legal stay then the passport will only be renewed for another year and not for full validity);
- Please note that the name in visa document / sticker or residence permit should match with that in the passport otherwise a short validity passport will be issued in cases where there are minor differences in the name on the passport and name on visa / residence permit and only after the applicant furnishes correct documents will a normal validity passport be issued or the validity of the passport may be extended to normal validity as the case may be.
- Passport will not be issued if there is a major difference in the name on the Indian passport and the name on visa / residence permit and the applicant will be asked to rectify / clarify the anomaly and any further services will be extended only after the rectification;
- Fee is £ 29.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for ordinary (36 pages) passport or £ 36.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for jumbo (60 pages) passport.
Change of name subsequent to marriage / remarriage / divorce / death of spouse
- Application form for a new passport in changed name/surname;
- 4 (four) latest identical passport-size (35 mm x 45 mm) photographs with white background;
- Current passport along with a photocopy;
- Original marriage certificate with a photocopy;
- Self attested photocopies of passports of his/her spouse should also be submitted along with the application;
- Divorcees applying for a change of name are required to furnish a divorce certificate authenticated by the court;
- In case of change of name following death of spouse, copy of death certificate of spouse;
- Remarried applicants applying for change of name/change of spouse name will be required to produce divorce decree/death certificate in respect of first spouse, marriage certificate from the Registrar of Marriages and photocopy of present spouse’s passport;
- For Addition/deletion of spouse name, applicant will be required to apply for new passport enclosing marriage certificate/death certificate/divorce decree, as the case may be, with the application;
- Fee is £ 29.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for ordinary (36 pages) passport or £ 34.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for jumbo (60 pages) passport.
Change of name – other cases
For applicants seeking to change first name or surname or both, he / she is required to place advertisements to that effect in a prominent newspaper of usual place of residence in the UK and a prominent daily newspaper of area of permanent address in India. Original clippings of these advertisements (newspaper page) along with a sworn affidavit in the prescribed format are required to be furnished with the application. As this would entail issue of a new passport, the fee would be £ 29.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for ordinary (36 pages) passport or £ 34.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for jumbo (60 pages) passport.
Change of address
To change Indian/UK address in the Indian passport, applicant must apply for issue of a new passport with copy of documents establishing new address in the form of utility bills, latest monthly bank statements, property papers etc.
Fee is £ 29.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for ordinary (36 pages) passport or £ 34.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for jumbo (60 pages) passport.
Change of Signature
For changing signature in the passport, application for new passport has to be made and the applicant must append his / her old signature along with new signature on the second page of the passport application form.
Fee is £ 29.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for ordinary (36 pages) passport or £ 34.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge) for jumbo (60 pages) passport.
Change in appearance
If your appearance has changed significantly since your last passport was made, you can apply for a fresh passport with a more recent photograph. You will need to fill up the prescribed form for a new passport along with two latest identical passport-size (35”x45”) photographs with white background. You also need to enclose your current passport and a sworn affidavit in the prescribed format. (Please refer to Note.3 above).
The fee for this service is £27.00 if you want an ordinary (36 page) passport or £34.00 if you want a jumbo (60 page) passport.
Re-issue of Passports for Children under 15 years
- A new passport can be issued on the expiry, or up to one year before expiry of any passport, which had an initial validity of 5 years;
- 4 (four) latest identical passport-size (35 mm x 45 mm) photograph of the child is required to be submitted with the application form;
- It is necessary to have a valid visa on the previous passport;
- Original passports of both the parents are required to be shown at the time of submission of application for issue of passport for a child;
- Signatures of both parents are required to be affixed on the application form, which should match with signatures on their passports;
- Self attested photocopies of passports of both parents are also required to be submitted along with the application form for the minor child’s passport;
- If all the pages of minor child’s passport have been exhausted, then also a new passport of five years validity from the current date can be issued subject to payment of fee;
- Fee for passport to minor child is £ 19.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge). Minor applicants are issued with only ordinary (36 pages) passport booklet and not jumbo (60 pages) passport booklet.
Passports for Children born in the UK
- Child's name cannot be entered in parents’ passport any longer. A new passport is issued to the Child;
- For a child to be given an Indian passport, the birth must be registered with the Consular Section of the High Commission within one year of birth. Please see

- Please note that the Consular Section does not issue any birth registration certificate. Only the receipt of payment made for registration is required to be shown at the time of submission of passport application for the child;
- Thumb impression (either left or right) of the child may be provided at the relevant place of signature of applicant in the application form. Beside, the declaration in the form must be signed by both parents;
- 4 (four) latest identical passport-size (35 mm x 45 mm) photograph of the child is required to be submitted with the application form;
- Full version birth certificate of the child mentioning names of both parents is required to be shown and a copy is to be enclosed with the application;
- Original passports of both the parents are required to be shown at the time of submission of application for issue of passport for a child;
- Self attested photocopies of passports of both parents are also required to be submitted along with the application form for the minor child’s passport;
- Signatures of both parents are required to be affixed on the application form, which should match with signatures on their passports;
- If neither of the parents hold valid visa for stay in the UK, then the child will be issued a short validity passport for one year, which can be extended later, once either of the parents furnish proof of valid visa;
- In case more than one year has elapsed since the birth of child or one of the parents hold British nationality, then a letter from the British Home Office stating that the child has not acquired British nationality would be required. This can be obtained from the Immigration & Nationality Directorate, Nationality Enquiry Team, P.O. No.306, Liverpool L69 2UX (Tel No. 0845 010 5200, Fax: 0151 672 5592). - Beside, an affidavit from parents that the child has not acquired British Nationality is also required to be filed at the High Commission;
- If either of the parents hold a foreign nationality other than British, then a letter from the concerned Embassy or Mission of that country stating that the child has not acquired nationality of his / her parent would be required. Beside, an affidavit from parents that the child has not acquired foreign Nationality is also required to be filed. This could be from a Notary Public in UK also ;
- For a child with single parent, an affidavit sworn before local Magistrate / Court is required to be submitted;
- Fee for issue of passport to minor child is £ 19.00 (including £ 2.00 as Consular Surcharge). Minor applicants are issued with only ordinary (36 pages) passport booklet and not jumbo (60 pages) passport booklet.
